Today's quick read is about the State of Michigan's Earned Sick Time Act.
Firstly, it's important to mention that there has been a fair amount of back and forth with the Earned Sick Time Act. Please expect more changes as Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity finalizes the Act.

P.S We're in the middle of creating a little cheat sheet to easily digest all this information, but let's take a look at key questions.
"When does the Act takes Effect?
October 1, 2025: Employers with 1-10 employees.
February 21, 2025: Employers with 11 or more employees.
What employees are entitled to receive this benefit?
Any person employed by an employer is subject to this law, except the following:
An employee who schedules their own working hours without a minimum number of hours required by the employer
An unpaid trainee or intern
An employee covered by the Youth Employment Standards Act (under the age of 18)
Independent Contractors are not considered employees under this law.
What earned sick time benefits are covered employees entitled to?
Employers with 1-10 employees:
Must provide 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
These employers may not limit the number of hours accrued each year, but they may limit use of the benefit to no more than 40 hours per year.
Employers with 11 or more employees:
Must provide 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
These employers may not limit the number of hours accrued each year, but they may limit the use of the benefit to no more than 72 hours per year."
